Camino Raises Thousands of Dollars for Families in Crisis on #GivingTuesday!

This week various organizations around the globe celebrated Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity, which aims to help inspire individuals to give to institutions through monetary donations. At Camino, we participated in this movement by focusing our efforts on raising money to support families in crisis.
To do this, we decided to tell the story of one specific family to whom we had the privilege of providing health, hope, and opportunity–the family of Abuela. Abuela’s story is filled with tragedy, resilience, and hope, and we brought it to life in a short film. The film walks the audience through the dangerous journey “Abuela”, her grandson “José”, and his parents made to the United States.
Once in the United States, José’s father murders his mother, leaving José and Abuela in a new country with nowhere to turn. With Abuela’s health deteriorating, it was crucial for Abuela and José to have a helping hand in their time of need.
Fortunately, their paths crossed with Camino. Since their first visit to our campus, we have provided Abuela and José with housing, medical care, behavioral health services, food, and clothes. Camino staffers also make sure that Abuela has transportation to and from her appointments and other necessary errands. We’re so thankful for all the hard work our staff, volunteers, and supporters have done to help us live out our mission of equipping people like Abuela to live healthy, hopeful, and productive lives.
